Lisa Murphy
MSc Psychotherapy, HDip Psychology, Accredited Member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP)
Working with Individuals (16+) and Couples
Psychotherapist at Willow Tree
My starting point is the relationship between therapist and client. I believe it is important to feel heard and understood, and to have the space to talk openly about whatever has brought you to therapy. I offer a space that is warm and unhurried, while also being thoughtful and engaged. The work can involve looking more closely at patterns, making connections and, when useful, gently challenging ways of thinking or relating that may be keeping difficulties in place.
My integrative training includes person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural approaches, alongside family systems, couples and psychosexual therapy. I don’t work from one fixed model, but draw on these different perspectives according to what is most useful for the person in front of me.
I am particularly interested in how earlier experiences and established patterns of relating can continue to shape how we feel about ourselves, what we expect from others and how we respond when relationships become difficult. Developing a clearer understanding of these patterns can create more choice in how we respond.
A central part of my work is supporting people to develop greater personal agency and self-confidence. I see therapy as a collaborative process, helping you understand yourself more clearly, trust your own judgement and make decisions that feel considered and genuinely your own.
